About the manufacturer
Janssens (imported by Exaco)
Janssens is a Belgian manufacturer that designs and builds aluminum and glass greenhouses, best known for the Royal Victorian, Junior Victorian, Orangerie and Retro lines. Every model is made to be a permanent, beautiful part of the garden, with rot-proof aluminum frames, real glass and roof vents for airflow.
Exaco is the company that imports Janssens greenhouses into the United States and supports them here, so you get European craftsmanship with US-based service and parts.
An orangery (also spelled orangerie) is a grand glass garden room, first built to shelter citrus trees through European winters. Today it is the most elegant way to grow year-round, entertain, or simply sit in your garden in any weather. At Mulberry Greenhouses in Atlanta, GA we carry orangery and conservatory greenhouse kits from Exaco Janssens (Belgium) and Alton (UK). Every orangery ships free to mainland US addresses.

Orangery, Conservatory or Greenhouse: What's the Difference?
- Greenhouse: built mainly for growing, with maximum light and ventilation.
- Orangery: a larger, more architectural glasshouse, often T-shaped, with extra headroom and floor space. It works as a growing room, a sunroom and a showpiece all at once.
- Conservatory: traditionally a glass room attached to the house for relaxing among plants. Our orangeries stand on their own in the garden, so they make a beautiful freestanding conservatory. For an attached sunroom, see the Berlin Solarveranda and our lean-to greenhouses.
Glass or Cedar Orangery?
Exaco Janssens orangeries use 4mm tempered glass in rubber seals on a low-maintenance aluminum frame. The Royal Orangerie is rated for 115 mph wind gusts and a 28.5 psf ground snow load, and includes a foundation frame. Alton cedar orangeries pair Grade 1 Western Red Cedar with single-pane toughened glass and Victorian ridge cresting. The Cambridge adds a lockable hinged door, shelving and a 10-year warranty against rot. Glass-and-aluminum is the lowest-upkeep choice; cedar gives the warmest, most natural look.

Orangery FAQ
What is an orangerie?
Orangerie is the French spelling of orangery: a large, elegant glasshouse originally used to overwinter orange and lemon trees. Today the two words mean the same thing.
Can I grow citrus in an orangery?
Yes. That is what orangeries were designed for. Most citrus trees grow happily in large pots, moved inside for winter. In cold climates, add a heater to keep the orangery above freezing.
Can an orangery be used as a sunroom?
Absolutely. The extra headroom and floor space leave room for a table and chairs among your plants. Many customers use theirs for morning coffee, dinners or a quiet reading spot.
Does an orangery need a foundation?
Yes. Orangeries are large and heavy, so they need a level, solid base, usually concrete. Our greenhouse foundation guide walks you through it, and you should check local permit rules before you build.
Who assembles an orangery?
Orangeries arrive as complete kits with instructions. Because of their size, many owners hire help. Our assembly crews page lists crews past customers have used; we are not affiliated with any of them.
How is an orangery delivered?
By freight truck, curbside. Shipping is free to mainland US addresses. Please let us know if your street cannot take a large truck.
