Product Description

divider-leaf-green

Picture this: a sun-warmed clay jar that looks like it was carried out of an old Italian villa, herbs spilling over its rim, and 158 gallons of free rainwater waiting inside for your garden.

That's the Graf Antique Amphora Rain Barrel. It has the timeless shape of a Mediterranean amphora (handles, aged terracotta texture and all), but it's made from tough, UV-stable polyethylene, so it won't chip, crack in the sun or fade like real clay. And thanks to the built-in planter on top, it isn't something you hide behind the shed. It's the piece your neighbors ask about.

💧 Did you know? Just 1 inch of rain falling on a 1,000 sq ft roof sends about 600 gallons down your gutters. That's enough to fill this barrel almost 4 times from a single storm.

Why Gardeners Fall for It

🏺 Looks like real terracotta

A sculpted amphora with handles and an aged clay finish that dresses up patios, courtyards and garden walls.

🌸 A planter on top

Grow basil, rosemary, petunias or trailing ivy right above your water supply.

💪 158 gallons of capacity

That's roughly 79 trips with a 2-gallon watering can, all from water you didn't pay for.

🦟 No mosquito nursery

The closed design has no open screen on top, so mosquitoes can't get in to breed.

🌑 Algae stays out

Thick, dark walls block sunlight, so your water stays cleaner for longer.

☀️ Built for the outdoors

UV-stable and weather-resistant, with a fast-flow spigot included so it's ready to use.

Why Your Plants Will Thank You

Rainwater is naturally soft and chlorine-free, the way plants like it. Vegetables, greenhouse seedlings, flower beds and potted plants all do better on it than on treated tap water. Every gallon you catch is one less on your water bill, and your garden keeps drinking even during summer watering restrictions.

Complete Your Setup

🔗 Graf Downspout Connection Kit

The must-have. It fills the barrel straight from your gutter (fits round or rectangular downspouts).

🚿 Graf Water Removal Kit

Makes draining quick and easy for cleaning or before a hard freeze.

Curious how much water your roof could collect? Plug in your numbers with our Greenhouse Rainwater Calculator.

❄️ Winter Care in 3 Easy Steps

Water expands when it freezes and can crack any rain barrel. Before the first hard freeze:

  1. Empty it completely.
  2. Disconnect it from the downspout or close off the water inlet.
  3. Leave the spigot open so any leftover water drains out.

Bonus: in a covered spot, the planter keeps looking good all winter with evergreens or cold-hardy pansies.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Our greenhouse specialists are happy to help you choose.

678-408-8222 Email us
Is a spigot included?
Yes. Every barrel comes with a brass-colored plastic fast-flow tap. It opens with a quarter turn and pours quickly, which is perfect for filling watering cans.
Can I switch to a brass tap?
Yes, a brass tap is available for an extra charge. Keep in mind that the brass tap has a shut-off valve, so it pours more slowly. Many customers stick with the plastic fast-flow tap because it is quicker and holds up surprisingly well. Call us if you'd like to add one.
How do I connect it to my downspout?
You'll need a Graf diverter (sold separately). Because this is a closed barrel with no open top, the diverter fits into a hole you cut in your downspout, and a hose runs from it into a hole in the side of the barrel. Graf makes diverters for both round and rectangular downspouts. Once the barrel is full, extra water simply keeps running down the downspout.
Is there an overflow outlet?
No, and you don't need one. When you use a Graf diverter, the overflow stays in your downspout instead of spilling around the barrel.
Can I hook up a garden hose?
Not directly. The plastic tap has no threads, and the barrel works by gravity only, so the water won't come out under pressure like a faucet. If you'd like a hose, you can slide rubber tubing from a hardware store onto the tap nozzle and secure it with a hose clamp. It works best for filling cans or slow, gentle watering.
How do I keep leaves and debris out?
Install gutter guards to catch larger debris. The Graf diverter also has an open center that lets some debris wash past and continue down the downspout instead of into your barrel.
Will mosquitoes or algae be a problem?
Graf designed this barrel as a closed system, so mosquitoes can't get in to lay eggs. The thick, dark walls block sunlight, which keeps algae growth to a minimum.
Can it stay outside all year?
Yes, as long as it sits on a firm, level surface and you prepare it for winter: empty it completely, disconnect it from the downspout, and leave the spigot open before the first hard freeze. The UV-stable material resists fading, so it keeps its warm terracotta color season after season.
Is shipping really free?

Yes. Shipping is free. Locations with limited access, such as islands, are rare exceptions that may carry an extra fee, and we'll tell you before anything ships.

Do you offer a price match?

Yes. If you find the same greenhouse for less from an authorized dealer, call or email us with the offer and we'll review it.

Are you an authorized retailer?

Yes. Mulberry Greenhouses is an authorized retailer, so your greenhouse is covered by the full manufacturer warranty.
